Take action

Court hearings are scheduled for May 20 and 21. Here are three things you can do right now — each takes under 10 minutes.

1

Contact your legislators

Tennessee state legislators authorized this map. Let them hear from you — especially those in districts that now include parts of Shelby County.

Subject: Oppose the gerrymandered congressional map — restore District 9

I am a constituent writing to express my strong opposition to the congressional redistricting map signed into law on May 7, 2026.

Splitting Memphis across three districts is a textbook gerrymandering tactic that dilutes the voting power of Memphis's majority-Black community. It eliminates the only majority-Black congressional district in Tennessee and silences the voices of hundreds of thousands of Tennesseans.

I urge you to support legislation to restore a fair map that keeps Memphis whole and preserves meaningful representation for all Tennesseans.

Support the organizations fighting back

Litigation is expensive. The organizations below are putting resources into the legal fight and community education. Donations, volunteering, and sharing their work all help.

Spread the word

Many Memphis residents don't know yet that their district has changed. Sharing this tool and the context around it is one of the most effective things you can do.

Tennessee just signed a map that splits Memphis's Black majority across 3 Republican-leaning districts. This is textbook gerrymandering. Find out how it affects your address:

Memphis voters just lost their unified voice in Congress. A map signed May 7 cracks Shelby County into 3 pieces. See what happened and what you can do:

If you run a newsletter, organization, or faith community

You can embed the district lookup tool directly in your site — no coding knowledge needed. Use the embed snippet from the main page (look for the embed button after looking up an address).

Make sure you're registered

With district lines changing, double-check your voter registration is current. The August 2026 primary is the first election under the new map (if courts don't block it).
